Overview

A 10-session practical course for experienced translators who are preparing to sit the DipTrans exams. You’ll complete 10 written translation assignments and receive feedback from a qualified tutor in your language combination and direction.

What You Will Learn

The 10 translation assignments cover all 3 exam units. You will complete translations of 4 general papers and 6 semi-specialised papers – one per topic (see topics below).

During each Skype tutorial, your tutor will provide oral feedback on your translations, allowing you to improve your technique, accuracy and readability.

Course Schedule

Enrolments are open all year-round. This course can be completed within 3 months.

We recommend you start this course at least 3 months before your chosen exam date. For example, to sit the exam in April, start this course in January.

What is the DipTrans?

The DipTrans is a postgraduate-level professional qualification that is widely recognised as the international gold standard for anyone wanting to become a freelance translator.

Obtaining this diploma improves work prospects and you can start using the DipTrans title after your name.

Do you offer the DipTrans Exam as well?

Yes. We now offer the DipTrans exam fully online four times a year, in January, April, July and October. Read more here.

Who is this course suitable for?

Suitable for experienced translators who are planning to sit the DipTrans exams, in order to become qualified translators.

If you would like to know whether you are at the right level to take part in the DipTrans course, we offer a translation evaluation service. A qualified and experienced tutor will mark your translation according to the respective criteria.

Are there any course requirements to join?

Native and near-native levels in your working languages. Excellent writing skills in both source and target languages.

Ability and discipline for autonomous study, learning, and research. Latest version of Skype for sessions with your tutor and reliable internet access.

Does this course include course materials on translation theory?

No. This is a purely practical course with no lessons or materials on translation theory. See our Foundation Course in Translation instead if you desire more support and a more comprehensive course.

What languages is this course available in?

Will I get a completion certificate?

Learners will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course (mandatory completion of all assignments and attendance of at least 100% required). This certificate is not a qualification. The diploma is awarded upon successfully passing all 3 units of the exam.

I failed one unit of the exam, can I just practice texts for that one unit?

If you are resitting 1 or 2 exam units, we can personalise a course for you – see our DipTrans Resit course option for this.

Who is the Resit course suitable for?

It is suitable for candidates who have failed one or two units of the DipTrans exam and are planning to resit.

Your course will be personalised to the unit(s) you wish to resit.

When do the online sessions with the tutor take place?

Skype sessions are flexible and organised directly between you and the tutor to suit the availability of both.
