Introduction to Interpreting course

Is this course accredited? No – This is a taster course that offers an introduction to interpreting in the UK:

  • It is aimed at helping bilinguals and aspiring interpreters wishing to get started in the interpreting profession;
  • It will serve as a first step in acquiring the necessary information about training as a community interpreter at Level 3.

  • Enjoy 1-year access to the course materials.
About this course This beginner course helps bilinguals and aspiring interpreters understand the basics of interpreting, test your English proficiency and learn about the role of the interpreter to see if this profession is suitable for you. It can be completed in 4 weeks or sooner if you’re keen to start your new career!

This is not a qualification that allows the student to undertake paid work in the UK – you need to hold at least a Level 3 qualification.*

This course does not include tutor support.

Course content This course covers the following modules:

  • English Proficiency for Interpreters
  • The Role of the Interpreter
  • Know your Community
  • Interpreting in Legal or Healthcare Settings

Learners will also receive a complimentary copy of the Introduction to Public Service Interpreting in the UK upon completing the course.

Course requirements The minimum requirements are:

  • A good level of fluency and good writing skills in your native language;
  • Ability to conduct self-study;
  • Fast internet access.
