DPSI Law Course for Rare Languages

This course is suitable for languages of lesser diffusion including but not limited to:

Albanian, Amharic, Bengali/Sylheti, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Dari, Korean, Kurdish, Mirpuri, Pashto, Punjabi, Somali, Tamil, Thai, Tigrinya and Vietnamese.

 

About the DPSI

 

The Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) is a nationally recognised qualification that serves as a benchmark for professional standards in the interpreting and translation profession.

Passing the exam and obtaining this diploma entitles you to:

• Use the DPSI title after your name
• Apply to become registered on the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI)

Course Dates This course runs twice a year:

 November to May to prepare for the June exam
 April to October to prepare for the November exam

About this course

 

This online course prepares interpreters and aspiring interpreters who speak a language of lesser diffusion to sit the DPSI Law exam. With monthly group sessions led by the course tutor, learners will be taught interpreting techniques, how to hone their skills and learn to research. Being online, it allows you to study in your own time and around your commitments if you cannot attend a face-to-face course.

Suitable for candidates/interpreters who:

• speak a language of lesser diffusion (rare language) and want to train towards an interpreting qualification
• wish to sit the DPSI Law exam in languages where there are no preparatory courses available
• would like to improve their knowledge in the field

This course is not suitable for beginners. Please check our Level 3 in Community Interpreting course if you do not have experience in interpreting.

Course Content • Learning materials covering the English legal system and the legal system of the other language country,
• 8 sessions with the course tutor
• Complimentary Glossary (if available in your language);
• Complimentary copy of The Interpreters’ Manual and completion certificate (if all coursework is submitted and 100% attendance)This course covers the same topics as the 8-month DPSI Law course.
Course Requirements Native and near-native levels in both English and the other language

• Some interpreting experience, voluntary or otherwise
• Ability to conduct autonomous study, research and weekly assignments
• Reliable internet access and the latest version of Skype
