DPSI Course – English Law Intensive

All language combinations are accepted.

This 6-week intensive preparatory course will help you get ready for the DPSI Law exam in a fast track environment.

Those who speak a language of lesser diffusion can also apply for this course.

About the DPSI  The Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) is a nationally recognised qualification that serves as a benchmark for professional standards in the interpreting and translation profession.

Passing the exam and obtaining this diploma entitles you to:

• Use the DPSI title after your name
• Apply for the professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL).
• Apply to become registered on the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI)

Who is this course for? This course is suitable for interpreters who wish to work in areas of the law such as police, probation, courts, solicitors and immigration. This intensive course is recommended for candidates who already have adequate interpreting experience and need a fast-paced revision course before attempting the DPSI Law exam.

This intensive course is also suitable for:

• Candidates who speak a language of lesser diffusion
• Candidates who need to improve their knowledge of specialised terminology before attempting the DPSI Law exam.

This course is not suitable for beginners. Please check our Level 3 in Community Interpreting if you do not have experience in interpreting.

When does the course run? This 6-week intensive course will run in May and again in October.

What do I need? • Native and near-native levels in both English and the other language;
• Adequate interpreting experience (voluntary or otherwise);
• Ability to conduct autonomous study (research and weekly assignments);
• Reliable internet access and the latest version of Skype for your online tutorials.
What will I learn? You will become familiarised with both the English legal system and the legal system of the other language country;

No Tutor Support

The full DPSI Law Intensive course combines a self-study approach with the support of a dedicated language tutor for you to practice your interpreting and translating skills.

This Self-Study course is not recommended for beginners.

This is a self-study course and does not include tutor support. The option to add tutor support (12 sessions) during your course is available at an additional cost and is subject to tutor availability. 

What do I receive on the full course

• 7 webinars covering all 7 modules;
• 24 assignments
• Complimentary Glossary (if available in your language);
• A complimentary copy of The Interpreters’ Manual and completion certificate (if all coursework is submitted and 100% attendance)
• 12 hours with a dedicated language tutor where you will practice your interpreting skills by doing role-plays, sight translations and receiving feedback on written translations into both English and the other language, which will be marked according to the NQF Level 6;
