The Language Show is an exhibition that has taken place every year for the past 30 years. It’s a great place where people who teach languages, are learning a language, provide language services and just love languages, come together under one roof.
As an online course provider offering training for interpreters and translators we attended the show to experience a bit of everything that the language show has to offer. From talks, performances and demonstrations by language professionals for people who love languages and taster classes in over 20 languages, to CPD talks, seminars and career talks for language professionals, the Language show has a bit of everything for everyone.
With so much to see over 3 days, it’s important to choose the days and talks you wish to visit carefully. Checking the programme early avoids missing out on the talks of your choice. We visited on Friday 9th November with a day jam-packed of interesting talks scheduled. We learned a lot about the importance and future of languages, starting off in school, to looking for a job in an era of globalisation.
We thought that the presentation on ‘Why languages are essential for all of us post-Brexit’ was appropriate. We also did not miss the discussion on remote interpreting which always causes such great debates. As well as the ‘Marketing Toolkit for Translators’ talk which provided valuable insights for those starting out in their language careers as an interpreter/translator.
And of course, we could not leave without passing by the CIoL booth, where someone is always available to answer questions about qualifications, becoming a member or a Chartered Linguist.
